Miniview: Hotel Byron, London W2

It is easy to forget that Hotel design is not just about aesthetics, but also about the attention to detail. An hotel designer makes sure that the guest needs are met at every stage whilst adhering to Building Codes and Fire regulations, ensuring that suppliers are able to provide the contract quality of furniture, furnishing etc. that provide the longevity in use a contract environment demands. Combined with good housekeeping this kind of attention to detail can save an hotelier money by ensuring quality of FF&E. Too often domestic suppliers will fail under the test of contract use. Here many of the suppliers are from the Directory (see the links at the end of the article) and we ensure that all Directory listed companies are able to deliver to the demanding environment that the hospitality industry provides.

Made up of a pair of terraced houses the 46 bedrooms are commensurate with the rates, offering en-suite facilities with breakfast at rates that are competitive. Character and charm come with Georgian interiors, and the sensitive restoration and decoration has kept much of the hotel’s boasted country house charm.

The opportunity was taken to reorganize the kitchen and back of house area, and Lee Designs ingenuity in adding to the workability of traditional back of house area, and care and concern for providing simple extras for staff ( a desk and mirror, extra space by reorganization of areas etc.) as well as find areas suitable for making a luggage store for guest luggage marks out their expertise in hotels.

The use of a designer has not only saved the Client money through the extensive knowledge of pricing in the contract market but has also delivered enhanced operational areas and quality finishes. The result is an exemplar in managing a tight budget whilst delivering additional style and functionality – all executed without the hotel closing and to a tight timescale.

Next major project for Lee Design Associates is in Singapore.
