VDA will be putting Micromaster into the remaining 84 rooms at the Mostyn. Initially chosen to replace the hotel’s existing swipe card key-entry system, Micromaster will also be used to monitor, manage and reduce energy usage in the guest bedrooms. VDA will also be installing its IPTV platform, PowerTV™, to all rooms at the Mostyn to provide high quality in-room entertainment.
VDA’s key-locking technology uses RFID (radio-frequency identification), allowing guests to wave their key card in front of a reader on the wall outside the room in order to push the door it open. In addition, Micromaster’s energy monitoring and management abilities enable both guests and hotel staff to regulate room temperature easily with simple and aesthetically designed controls; once a preference has been set, Micromaster will intelligently find the most energy efficient way to maintain that temperature. The Mostyn has also enhanced guest experience by using Micromaster to implement a room-call system that allows guests to call service to the room at the touch a button.
“Micromaster is really user-friendly and its unique features really set it apart from other systems we looked at. Instead of choosing a one-trick pony that only unlocks doors we have select a multi-functional system with energy-saving properties that fit into the our existing CSR plan,” explains Anup Sarin, general manager at the Mostyn. “However it wasn’t just the product we chose: VDA as a company met our needs too. Our location means we often operate with more than 90 per cent occupancy so we had to keep the time taken for a refurbishment to a minimum. VDA had to work to very tight schedules – often on short notice as rooms became available for implementation – to keep our project on track.”
“Upgrading the hotel to a four-star standard meant that the Mostyn needed to ensure everything from the quality of the staff services to the fixtures and fittings made the grade,” says Gary Francies, Director at VDA. “This included the technology frameworks within the guests’ rooms. Hotel visitors now demand a much higher quality of in-room services, and this is an issue which VDA has helped the Mostyn to address.”
