The dark, almost masculine brown and gold colour scheme also has echoes of the past scheme and continues inside the bedrooms. As the hotel was the first in the UK with en-suite bathrooms throughout, the original bathroom size is kept and whilst it is not large by modern standards, it still provides a functional bathroom, with some luxury touches. Lighting is good, as it is in the bedroom.
The style of the bedroom joinery is more deliberately nostalgic, but works without being too heavy in appearance. The rooms have a rich colour scheme and a strong sense of pattern which makes them feel warm (all rooms are of course air conditioned). With large windows even on a grey day in Leeds they were not gloomy in any way, but the lighting works very well both as task lighting and as general lighting. The carpets woven pattern echoes that of the wallpaper whilst a border runs around the area of the bed.
The heavy drapes provides an effective blackout and helps to ensure that rooms are very quiet.
