Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret
The contrast in lighting between the shower area and the wash hand basin is marked in this image. In practice it was difficult to see properly whilst at the sink
Bathroom is glass-walled. Lighting around the vanity is not bright enough.
"Colour is used strongly and the result is a stylish and relaxing environment"
This is one of the taller buildings in Bergen, so the bedrooms on the upper floors have good views over the harbour and into the bedrooms of the Radisson across the square – fun for all the family! Bedrooms are stylish, although under the roof pitch the planning could have been better, as if you are on the wrong side of the bed and need to get up in the night the proximity to ceiling and beams is brought to consciousness very abruptly – brought in fact to potential unconsciousness for the robustly incautious.

Bathrooms have a semi glazed area around the wash hand basin and good large showers. Lighting is adequate throughout, and generally the rooms are very comfortable. Colour is used strongly and the result is a stylish and relaxing environment, but one that also works well for the business traveller, with a large working desk surface.
Standard bedroom. With the shagreen wallpaper in the bathroom area, black stained casegoods and purple and gold colour this is in keeping witht eh colours on the ground floor
Bedroom colours are in keeping with the public areas, using the same palette
Lift lobby is marked out by lighting and changed floor finishes. Carpet monogram echoes the device on the cushions in the bedrooms. Funky furniture completes corridor scheme
Coridors are typically 'boutique' in a style that is becoming a design language in its own right
Soundproofing between rooms and public areas is excellent, but there is a high threshold strip across the doorway that prevents a luggage trolley being wheeled into the room. The stylishness of the public areas continues through the bedroom areas of the hotel as does the colour palette. Textures and colours are carried through the carpet and the materials used harmonise well with the remnants of the historic customs building the hotel is converted from.

It is not readily evident that this is a conversion, the whole appearing very contemporary until one finds for example, the granite staircase, or the stair to the roof. The whole building has been very well planned and works effectively, with a good mix of bedroom types and a large suite.

In an excellent location, near the ferry port from the UK, and adjacent to the fish market and old town, the hotel will no doubt prove to be a very successful and profitable addition to the Clarion chain in Norway
