Perhaps the most decorative rooms are the private dining room and the boardroom where wallpapers are used, providing a welcome relief from the minimalism elsewhere, otherwise colour and texture are only provided through fabrics such as those in the restaurant or bar, and through the artwork, much of it by local artists.
Perhaps my expectations were too high when I arrived, particularly as I enjoyed both the Savoy and Browns, but I found the hotel design disappointing. The hotel looks almost as if too much respect was given to the architect, and the interiors as a result don’t appear to work as well as they do in the other hotels, lacking the colour, warmth and wit I previously associated with Olga Polizzi.
