"a properly presented area with the tea and coffee making facility, bar etc – it just lacks a butler..."

Bathrooms have not been changed in the refurbishment, but as they are the usual high quality five star units with soaking tub, walk-in shower and marble vanities with double wash hand basins, there was no need for change. Each bathroom has a separate toilet.
The dressing room area between the bathroom and the bedroom has his’n’her robes separated by a dressing table. Outside this area in the room lobby is a minibar area – not just a cupboard but a properly presented area with the tea and coffee making facility and bar – it just lacks a butler...
The bedrooms themselves all have views across the harbour. Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront may well be a marina and shopping mall but it also has a large commercial area, a dock for cruise liners and a dry dock across which a footbridge runs from the Cape Grace to the main harbour leisure zone. One of the attractions of the V&A Waterfront is the fascinating mix of ‘trips around the bay’, working tugs and fishing boats, large expensive yachts and what is disparagingly referred to in Cape Town as ‘Tupperware’ – any pleasure boat under 40 foot long!

It is possible to enjoy views of all this; school kids practising their ‘dragon boat’ racing skills and the tourist bustle from the tranquillity of the hotels bedroom windows, many of the rooms having balconies from which to enjoy the views. Unlike the One & Only on the other side of the Marina, the hotel is not overlooked so it is possible to watch without being watched, to enjoy the activity whilst remaining private oneself.
The bedroom, even with the space taken off by dressing room and the large bathroom, still feels generously sized, with room for easy chairs and a large desk in addition to the dining table. Note, designers, there is a desk and a dressing table. No confusion of function where owners try to shoehorn in the five star requirements to a four star sized room, but a properly thought out set of practical solutions embellished by nice design touches throughout.
